SFCC goes undefeated at Jamboree

The Roadrunners traveled to Overland Park, Kansas, Oct. 15 for the Johnson County Jamboree. SFCC was undefeated at the event. The scrimmage format featured two 25-minute halves.

SFCC defeated Southeast Community College from Beatrice, Nebraska, 79-44 in the first scrimmage.

"We had a good team effort," said Head Coach Matt Brown. "We had three players in double figures scoring and a balanced attack."

Freshman guard Tim Leavell led in scoring with 21 points and dished out five assists. Freshman guard Tyreek Scott-Grayson contributed 12 points. He tied for the team lead in rebounds with freshman guard/forward LePear Toles with six each. Scott-Grayson led in steals with four. Freshman guard Dru Smith added 10 points.

In the second scrimmage, SFCC outscored North Central Missouri College from Trenton 51-43.

"North Central is always a well coached team," said Brown. "They played hard. It was a back-and-forth game. Everyone got to play."

Sophomore guard Andre (A.J.) Walker led in scoring with 16 points and dished out a team-high five assists. He led in steals with two. Sophomore guard Grant Gelon pitched in nine points. Freshman guard/forward Caleb Coleman pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

In the final scrimmage, SFCC took down Fort Scott Community College 72-56. Gelon led in scoring with 21 points, and Coleman contributed 14. Sophomore guard Derrick Brock, Jr. pulled down a team-high six rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists. Walker led in steals with four. Sophomore center Isaac Bassey registered a blocked shot.

Coach Brown was pleased with what his team learned from the three scrimmages.

"Teams played a lot of different defenses against us," said Brown. "We saw different matchups, so it was good for us."

SFCC closes out the preseason schedule at the John A. Logan Jamboree on Sunday, Oct. 22.
