Roadrunners defeat Eagles

The Roadrunners erased a 14-point second half deficit to defeat the Quakerdale Prep Eagles from New Providence, Iowa, on Tuesday night, Feb. 16, at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. SFCC (17-9) went to a trap defense to defeat the Eagles 87-81.

"I felt like we were finally able to get some energy and create turnovers," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "It ignited us a little bit. The key to the game was that we finally were able to get some defensive stops to get back in the game and get the win."

Sophomore guard Joshua Bailey knocked down a three-point shot from the elbow to put the Roadrunners up 73-71 with about five minutes remaining. An emphatic two-handed dunk from freshman guard William Jones brought the SFCC fans to their feet with less than two and half minutes remaining, and that put the exclamation point on the contest. The Roadrunners made their free throws to seal the victory.

Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. led four Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 25 points. Jimerson and Bailey each pulled down seven rebounds, which tied for the team lead. Jimerson also dished out a team-high eight assists. He, sophomore forward Clint Robinson and sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III tied for the team lead in steals with two each. Robinson contributed 22 points and led in blocked shots with three. Rousseau added 18 points; Jones pitched in 11.

SFCC will close out their regular season schedule with an important homecoming game against the Mineral Area College Cardinals on Saturday, Feb. 20. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
