Scouts defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners traveled to Kansas City on Tuesday, Feb. 2, to take on the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Scouts. Penn Valley scored the first 15 points in the contest and defeated SFCC (15-7) by a score of 95-86.

"Penn Valley played really well," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "They got off to a blistering start. They were prepared and ready to play; we came out flat. Our effort level wasn't where it needed to be in order to win on the road."

Penn Valley led 42-35 at halftime. In the second half, a three-point basket from sophomore guard Joshua Bailey brought the Roadrunners to within four points, but Penn Valley made the plays to secure the win.

"We played a lot harder in the second half," said Thomas. "We were just unable to get stops on the defensive end when we needed them."

Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. led three Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 31 points. He made eight of 13 field goal attempts and 15 of 16 free throw attempts. He finished his double double pulling down 12 rebounds and also dished out a team-high four assists. Sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III contributed 19 points. Sophomore forward Clint Robinson recorded a double double with 14 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. He also had a team-high four blocked shots and three steals in the contest.

SFCC returns to Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Feb. 6, when they travel to Poplar Bluff to take on the Three Rivers Community College Raiders. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
