Roadrunners win high scoring game

The Roadrunners shook off a slow start on Tuesday night, Jan. 26, to pick up a Missouri Community College Athletic Conference win over the St. Louis Community College Archers 101-90 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. SFCC (14-6, 4-2 in the MCCAC) led 36-34 at halftime in a game that featured eight lead changes and 11 ties.

"It was a weird game," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "It was hard to get into any kind of flow offensively. In the second half when we were able to score, we kind of traded baskets. We never created that separation that we needed."

Sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III led four Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 36 points. He made eight of 12 shots from the field, three of four from beyond the three-point arc and all 17 of his free-throw attempts. Sophomore forward Clint Robinson contributed 17 points and pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. He also blocked a team-high three shots. Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. and sophomore guard Joshua Bailey added 14 points each. Jimerson dished out a team-high six assists and registered a team-high three steals.

Coach Thomas sees specific areas in which he wants to see improvement before the Roadrunners' next game.

"We need to do a better job of getting through ball screens," said Thomas. "We struggled with that tonight, and we need to do a better job of defending overall. I thought we defended really hard against Mineral Area in the second half, but tonight it was a struggle to get to a championship level."

The Roadrunners next game is 7:30 p.m. Saturday night, Jan. 30, on their home court against the Reivers from Iowa Western Community College.
