Roadrunners open region play with win against TRCC

The Roadrunners used a big run to open the second half to defeat the Three Rivers Community College Raiders 97-85 on Saturday, Jan. 9, at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas was pleased with the way his team started the game.

"I thought our guys were ready to go," said Thomas. "Yesterday's practice was the best practice that we've had all year. So I wasn't surprised that we were ready to go tonight."

SFCC (12-4, 1-0 in Region 16, 2-0 in the MCCAC) took a 41-37 lead into halftime and came out of the locker room on a 14-2 run to push the advantage to 55-39.

"We talked about trying to get some separation at halftime," said Thomas. "I thought our guys made some shots. Asem's (Johnson) energy was really good. His hustle was good. He didn't score a bunch, but he definitely affected the scoreboard with his hustle."

Sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III led five Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 29 points. He also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and dished out a team-high seven assists. Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. contributed 22 points and six rebounds. He also registered a team-high four steals.

Freshman guard Duante Stephens pitched in with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Joshua Bailey added 11 points. Sophomore forward Clint Robinson pitched in with 10 points.

The Roadrunners will continue a three-game home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 13, when they host the Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds in another key Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game. Tipoff will be 7:30 p.m. in the Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.
