Blackhawks Defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners struggled shooting from the field and the free-throw line Dec. 9 in a 74-59 loss to the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks from West Burlington, Iowa, at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. SFCC shot 33 percent from the field and 56 percent from the free-throw line.

SFCC (11-3) trailed 42-30 at halftime. The Roadrunners went to a trapping defense to up the tempo late in the game. A layup from sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III cut the Roadrunner deficit to seven points with two minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the game. Southeastern made the plays to close out the contest.

"We had to do something to get the game going faster, because we needed more possessions to get back into the game," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "Our guys fought hard, but it was too little too late."

Sophomore forward Clint Robinson registered a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, leading his team in both categories in the final game of the semester for the Roadrunners. Rousseau added 16 points and tied for the team lead in assists with sophomore guard Joshua Bailey with four.

"We didn't finish the semester the way I had hoped," said Thomas. "Hopefully, a couple weeks off will give our guys some energy so we can come back and get ready for region play." SFCC will return to action at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 when the Roadrunners travel to West Burlington, Iowa, for another game against the Blackhawks.
