Roadrunners Win Overtime Thriller

The Roadrunners won their sixth game in a row to open the season Nov. 13 with a 111-105 win in overtime over the Allen Community College Red Devils from Iola, Kansas. The game was part of the opening round of the Stone Laser Imaging Classic at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.

The game featured 12 lead changes and 14 ties. SFCC (6-0) outscored the Red Devils 22-16 in overtime to seal the victory.

"We got off to a quick start in the overtime," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We were able to get a lead to give us a cushion. We didn't do a very good job of stopping them, but that initial burst to start the overtime was very important."

Sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III led five Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 33 points and led the team in assists with 10 to finish his double double. Sophomore guard Joshua Bailey contributed 25 points. Sophomore forward Clint Robinson pitched in with 19 points and pulled down a team-high 16 rebounds for another double double. Robinson also led in blocked shots with three. Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. added 13 points and freshman guard William Jones tossed in 10 points.

"It was a great game," said Thomas. "The fans got their money's worth tonight. As a coach, overtime games like that are very stressful. We were very fortunate to come out on the winning side. Allen County is a good ball club; they played hard and were hard to guard. We definitely need to work on our skills on the defensive end."
