Roadrunners Continue Winning Ways

The Roadrunners made a victorious return to their home floor Nov. 10 when they fought off a tough challenge from the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Scouts from Kansas City to win 88-76 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

The Roadrunners (5-0) led 26-16 in the first half. The Scouts tied the game at 29 with just over five minutes remaining. The Roadrunners answered with a run of their own to take a 43-36 lead into halftime.

SFCC began the second half with a 7-0 run to extend its advantage, which was punctuated by a dunk from sophomore forward Clint Robinson. Penn Valley continued to chip away at SFCC's advantage, but the Roadrunners made enough plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

"Our games with Penn Valley always go down to the wire," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "They always compete and play hard. They were right there with us most of the game. The difference in the game was the number of free throws we shot. We shot 40 free throws and made 31; Penn Valley only shot 11."

Robinson led four Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 24 points. He also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and registered a team-high two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III contributed 21 points and led in steals with two. Sophomore guard Joshua Bailey pitched in with 18 points. Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. added 10 points and dished out a team-high six assists.

SFCC will host the Stone Laser Imaging Classic Nov. 13-14 at home. The Roadrunners will open their portion of the classic Friday against Allen County Community College and play Malcolm X College Saturday. Tipoff both nights is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
