Roadrunners Sweep a Pair of Games

The Roadrunners swept their games Nov. 6-7 in the West Plains Classic.

SFCC (4-0) opened its portion of the classic Friday by defeating the Faith Prep Warriors from West Memphis, Arkansas, 118-92. On Saturday SFCC defeated the Graceland University Yellowjackets Junior Varsity from Lamoni, Iowa, by a score of 99-64.

SFCC got off to a quick start Friday courtesy of a pair of baskets from sophomore guard Ronnie Rousseau III. The Roadrunners led 60-33 at halftime."Ronnie scored well that night," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "He was able to get to the rim and finish, and he made some three-point shots. He was a big reason we got off to that quick start."

Rousseau had an outstanding game, registering a double double with 39 points and 12 rebounds. He also contributed a team-high six assists and three steals and shot 12 of 18 from the field and 14 of 15 from the free-throw line. Freshman guard William Jones added 14 points. Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. pitched in with 13 points. Three other Roadrunners scored 10 points apiece, including freshman forward Keari Brown, sophomore forward Clint Robinson and sophomore guard Joshua Bailey. As a team, SFCC shot 75.5 percent from the free-throw line."

Willie did a good job," said Thomas. "We were able to get the ball inside to Clint. A lot of guys contributed."

On Saturday, SFCC was ahead 48-36 at halftime. Graceland trimmed the lead to five points early in the second half. Thomas put five new players in who helped put the game away.

"Those five played hard and with energy," said Thomas. "We didn't play very hard the whole weekend. When we came out after halftime, we were disconnected and Graceland was making shots and scoring easily. We put five new guys in and they played hard. They were able to pick up full court and defend well. They were quicker to the ball and got us going. Our bench did a great job of bringing energy to our team."

Five Roadrunners scored in double figures. Sophomore wing Ryan Surface and Jimerson scored 18 points each. Jimerson dished out a team-high nine assists. Brown scored 15 points and Rousseau pitched in with 13 points. Robinson added a double double with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds and also led with three steals and two blocked shots.

SFCC will return home Nov. 10 to take on the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Scouts at 7:30 p.m. at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The Lady Roadrunners will start the scheduled doubleheader against Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley at 5:30 p.m.
