Roadrunners Sweep McDonald’s Classic

The Roadrunners got off to a fast start Oct. 31 defeating the Butler Community College-Kansas Grizzlies from El Dorado 101-77 in the McDonald's Classic at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.

SFCC (2-0) jumped out to a 14-5 lead with fewer than 15 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Roadrunners led 53-27 at halftime.

"We played with more energy and effort on the defensive end," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "The guys paid attention to our scouting report this morning and executed pretty well; we basically controlled the game from the tipoff to the end. We did a great job of boxing out; we just have to continue to build our skills. We tell our players that the sign of a mature team is how you handle success. Now we need to go back to work on Monday and correct some things."

Freshman guard Willie Jimerson Jr. led five Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 20 points. He also led in steals with three and dished out a team-high seven assists. Sophomore forward Clint Robinson registered a double double with 17 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore guards Joshua Bailey and Ronnie Rousseau III added 14 points each. Freshman guard William Jones added 11 points.

"A lot of guys produced for us," said Thomas. "If we continue to have that kind of balanced scoring we'll be hard to guard. That's how I envisioned this team, with a lot of players we go to for points. We need to work together offensively, rebound and defend."

SFCC will hit the road Nov. 6 to play in the West Plains Classic in West Plains, Missouri. The Roadrunners will take on Graceland University Junior Varsity Friday night and College of Faith Saturday. Tipoff both nights is scheduled for 5 p.m.
