Cardinals Defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners lost a key Region 16 game Jan. 24 to the eighth-ranked Mineral Area College Cardinals from Park Hills in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. SFCC (4-15, 0-4 in Region 16, 0-4 MCCAC) fell by a score of 87-60. The game was also part of the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule.

The Cardinals stormed out to an early 23-6 lead with just under 12 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the first half and led 42-25 at halftime.

"Mineral Area played hard," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "They are 21-1 for a reason. The way they play is a tough matchup for us. When you have 31 turnovers, it's hard to beat anyone."

Freshman guard Joshua Bailey led in scoring with 24 points, including five of seven from beyond the three-point arc. Freshman wing Ryan Surface contributed 15 points. Freshman forward Selvedin Planincic pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and registered a team-high two blocked shots. Freshman wing Donnavan Hastings dished out a team-high four assists.

"Josh Bailey made some good shots for us," said Thomas. "Ryan made some shots as well. Turnovers were our downfall."

The Roadrunners will travel to Norfolk, Nebraska, Jan. 27 to take on the Northeast Community College Hawks at 7 p.m.
