Red Ravens Defeat Roadrunners

The 19th-ranked Roadrunners closed out the 2014 McDonald's Classic Nov. 1 with a 71-54 loss to the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens from Coffeyville, Kansas.

The opening half was a back-and-forth battle. SFCC (0-2) took a 23-15 lead late in the first half. The Red Ravens chipped away at the advantage, taking a one-point lead at halftime at 28-27. Coffeyville used its size and depth on the inside to take control of the game in the final 10 minutes and emerged with a 71-54 victory.

"The post players from Coffeyville really hurt us late in the game," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We couldn't keep them off the glass and they were able to get the ball inside. It was hard for us to guard in there."

Freshman guard Ra'Chaun Martin led SFCC in scoring with 30 points, including 10 of 13 from the free-throw line. He also tied for the team lead in assists with two and led the team in steals with four. Freshman guard Cameron Davis also registered two assists. Freshman wing Donnavan Hastings contributed 11 points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Selvedin Planincic pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and recorded two blocked shots.

"Ra'Chaun had a great game," said Thomas. "He carried us offensively. He was the only guy who was able to consistently make shots tonight."

SFCC will travel to Dodge City, Kansas, Nov. 7-8 to take part in the Dodge City Classic. SFCC will take on the host Dodge City Community College at 7 p.m. Friday and Barton Community College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
