Roadrunners Close out Exhibition Season

The Roadrunners were undefeated Oct. 25 in the John Wood Scrimmage in Quincy, Illinois, their final preseason scrimmage.

The Roadrunners took on Southeastern Iowa in their first scrimmage of the day. SFCC led 26-22 at halftime and hung on for a 54-51 victory.

"We shot the ball well," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "Our effort was good. We need to improve at defending ball screens, but overall I was pleased."

Freshman forward Clint Robinson led SFCC in scoring with 16 points. Sophomore guard Dondre Alexander chipped in with 13 points. Freshman guard Hakeem Coney pulled down a team-high five rebounds and dished out a team-high five assists.

SFCC defeated John Wood Community College 33-31 in its second scrimmage. John Wood led by seven points at halftime, but SFCC outscored their opponents 23-14 in the second half to secure the victory.

"We got off to a sluggish start," said Thomas. "In the second half we came out and made some shots and got some defensive stops when we needed them."

Alexander led in scoring with 19 points. Robinson pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and freshman forward Selvedin Planincic registered a team-high four blocked shots.

The Roadrunners took on Hannibal-LaGrange University in their final scrimmage. SFCC trailed 28-22 at halftime, but rallied in the second half to secure a 51-43 victory.

"They made a run to take the halftime lead," said Thomas. "In the second half we got a few stops and got our offense going."

Alexander led in scoring with 14 points. Freshman guard Ra'Chaun Martin contributed 10 points, Robinson pulled down a team-high six rebounds and Martin dished out a team-high three assists.

"I feel better about our team's performance than I did last Wednesday," said Thomas. "We have to keep building as a team and continue to refine our skills."

The Roadrunners will open their season at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Fred E. David Multipurpose Center when they host Sunrise Christian Academy from Wichita, Kansas, in the McDonald's Classic. They will close out the classic at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 when they take on the Red Ravens from Coffeyville, Kansas.
