Pirates Defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners (4-22) lost 97-80 to the North Central Missouri College Pirates Feb. 18 in Trenton, Missouri. The Pirates are ranked 20th in NJCAA Division II basketball.

"We did some good things offensively, but we still struggled defensively," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We played a lot harder Saturday against Moberly, but just couldn't get moving tonight. We struggled to get stops defensively. You have to tip your hat to North Central; they have a lot of guys who are skilled offensively and can make shots. It's hard for us to match up."

Freshman guard Joshua Bailey led four Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 29 points. He also dished out a team-high five assists and knocked down five three-point shots. Freshman forward Clint Robinson contributed a double double with 13 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Freshman wing Ryan Surface added 11 points. Freshman guard Spencer Ruckman pitched in with 10 points. Freshman forward Selvedin Planincic recorded a team-high three blocked shots.

"Spencer played really hard," said Thomas. "Clint had a good game as well and gave us a presence inside. Joshua Bailey was pretty efficient offensively and was also able to limit his turnovers."

SFCC will travel to Park Hills, Missouri, Feb. 21 to close out the regular season portion of its schedule against the Mineral Area College Cardinals in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
