Cardinals Defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners closed out the regular season portion of their schedule Feb. 21 when they fell to the 12th-ranked Mineral Area College Cardinals 109-82 in Park Hills, Missouri.

Mineral Area jumped out to an early 21-5 advantage and led 57-36 at halftime. The Cardinals outscored SFCC 52-46 in the second half to secure the win.

"We got ourselves in a hole to start off the game," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "A lot of Mineral Area guys made shots. We were unable to get stops. We were able to score, but defensively we just didn't get to their shooters."

Freshman forward Clint Robinson led SFCC in scoring with 25 points and pulled down a team-high 17 rebounds. Freshman forward Selvedin Planincic contributed 20 points. Freshman guard Joshua Bailey pitched in with 16 points and dished out a team-high five assists. Freshman guard Spencer Ruckman added 10 points.

"Clint had another good game," said Thomas. "Selvedin did some good things offensively. Spencer was able to make some shots. Josh was pretty efficient offensively as well."

SFCC (4-23, 0-8 in Region 16, 0-6 in the MCCAC) will travel to West Plains, Missouri, Feb. 24 for the quarterfinal game of the Region 16 tournament. Tipoff between the Roadrunners and the MSU-West Plains Grizzlies is scheduled for 7 p.m.

"We have to do a much better job of getting to their shooters than we did when we played them here," said Thomas. "We also have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball."
