Roadrunners Participate in Third Scrimmage

The Roadrunners participated in the Central Methodist University (CMU) scrimmage Oct. 22 in Fayette. SFCC took on the Missouri Baptist University varsity team in its first game and the CMU varsity team in the second game.

"We played with six guys so I think fatigue definitely became an issue," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We were unable to sustain high levels of play for long periods of time. We were up two points late in the game. We fouled to put Missouri Baptist on the free-throw line with about two seconds to go. Missouri Baptist made both free throws. We drew up a play and executed it. Dondre Alexander hit a long two-point shot from the corner to give us the two-point win."

Thomas said the team got off to a sluggish start against Central Methodist.

"They were ahead by 17 points at halftime," said Thomas. "We played much harder and a little smarter in the second half. We did a better job taking care of the ball and were able to get some shots in transition and climb back into the game. We cut the lead to five a couple of times but couldn't get any closer. Central Methodist won the game 89-77.

"I was very pleased with our effort, especially in the second half against Central Methodist," said Thomas. "We did a better job of making the right plays, and we need to keep building on that."

SFCC will play in the John Wood Scrimmage Oct. 25 in Quincy, Illinois. The Roadrunners will play Southeastern Iowa, John Wood Community College and Hannibal-LaGrange University.
