Grizzlies Defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners lost 106-50 to the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies Jan. 20 in West Plains in another Region 16 contest.

SFCC (4-15, 0-3 in Region 16) found itself in an early 20-3 hole, and the Grizzlies led 64-25 at halftime. Freshman guard Joshua Bailey led SFCC in scoring with 11 points and freshman wing Ryan Surface pitched in with 10 points. Bailey also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, dished out a team-leading three assists and registered a team-high two steals.

"We struggled mightily all night to guard them," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We have to find a way to get better."

SFCC will return home Jan. 24 to take on the nationally ranked Mineral Area College Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. in another Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference contest. Coach Thomas sees some key areas to focus on in preparation for Mineral Area.

"We have to guard their dribble penetration," said Thomas. "We have to have our press offense ready to go. We also need to take care of the basketball and make good decisions. We won't be able to run much half-court offense against them because of the way they play. We'll have to make key passes, and catch and finish layups when we get the opportunity."
