Hawks Defeat Roadrunners

The Northeast Community College Hawks defeated the Roadrunners 67-38 Jan. 27 in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Freshman guard Joshua Bailey knocked down a three-point shot to put SFCC (4-17) ahead 4-2 with about 16 minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the opening half. The Hawks took a 7-6 lead they would never relinquish. The Roadrunners trailed 25-15 at halftime.

"We executed our game plan very well in the first half," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We were able to keep the game close. We were down seven points with about 30 seconds to go and then turned the ball over. They knocked down a contested three-point shot. If we had held onto the ball, we would have gone into halftime down seven instead of 10."

Northeast opened the second half on a 10-1 run to push its advantage to 35-16 and controlled the game from then on to secure the victory.

Freshman forward Clint Robinson recorded a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, the team high in both categories. Bailey contributed nine points. Freshman guard DaMario Walker pitched in with eight points and a team-high four assists. Freshman forward Selvedin Planincic led the team in blocked shots with four. Robinson added two.

"Clint Robinson played very well," said Thomas. "He gave us a presence around the basket, blocked some shots and also rebounded the ball well. He finished through contact. Hopefully, he will continue to play at that level. DaMario also played a great game. He was able to get into the paint and find the open man and also was able to finish some shots. I thought he did an excellent job."

SFCC will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa, Feb. 3 to take on the Iowa Western Community College Reivers at 7 p.m.
