Roadrunners Split at Coffeyville Tournament

The Roadrunners competed in the fifth annual Coffeyville Resources Juco Elite 8 Tournament Dec. 5-6 in Coffeyville, Kansas. SFCC (4-10) fell to the Pratt Community College Beavers from Pratt, Kansas, by a score of 89-72 in its first game.

Pratt led 44-30 at halftime. SFCC cut the deficit to 63-54 in the second half. The Beavers made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

"We were able to string together a few stops on the defensive end," said Roadrunners Assistant Coach Josh Sash. "Joshua Bailey made eight three-point shots and kept the game close for us."

Bailey led four Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 25 points. Donnavan Hastings contributed 18 points and dished out eight assists. Clint Robinson added 16 points and tied Ryan Surface for the team lead in rebounds with six. Hakeem Coney pitched in with 10 points and dished out a team-high nine assists.

SFCC closed out its portion of the tournament Saturday by defeating the Quakerdale Prep Eagles from New Providence, Iowa, 89-82. SFCC took control of a back-and-forth contest in the final 10 minutes to emerge with the victory.

"We did a good job in our zone defense," said Sash. "Quakerdale's best shots were from the perimeter. They missed some shots early in the game, but were able to score later on to get back into the game. We just kept fighting and were able to make enough plays to win."

Bailey led SFCC in scoring with 23 points. Coney registered a double double with 18 points and 17 assists and led the team in steals with three. Selvedin Planincic contributed 16 points and a team-leading 10 rebounds to finish his double double. Hastings and Robinson pitched in with 12 points apiece.

"It was nice to get a win against Quakerdale," said Sash. "It was a good way to close out the semester."

SFCC will be off for finals and the holiday break until Jan. 5 when the Roadrunners host Northeast Community College from Norfolk, Nebraska, at 7 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
