Lady Roadrunners earn draw and win to open Region 16 action

September 7 Mineral Area College at Park Hills, Missouri

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners battled to a 1-1 draw in double-overtime in the opening game of Region16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference play for SFCC against Mineral Area College on Wednesday, September 7 in Park Hills.

Mineral Area scored first around the 33rd minute mark and held that lead at halftime. Freshman Adamaris Ramirez tied the match on a goal at the 71st minute. The game was tied at the end of regulation 1-1. SFCC had multiple chances in overtime but could not convert.

Ramirez took a team-high five shots in the match. Sophomore forward Sabra Moon registered four.

"This game was one of the hardest that we've had so far," said Lady Roadrunners Associate Head Coach Roberto Tucker. "Our transition from the midfielders to the forwards was good and our back line shifted correctly. We had two opportunities to win the game in the second overtime, but we hit the post twice.

"We have been dominating games in overtime and had chances to win thanks to our conditioning. It is nice to see our players have been able to apply what we have done in practice to the games."

Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Mosher got the start in goal for SFCC and made 10 saves. Freshman goalkeeper Nayeli Lopez played the final 25 minutes and made three saves.

September 10 St. Charles Community College Cottleville, Missouri

SFCC (3-0-2, 1-0-1 in Region16) erased a two-goal first half deficit to claim a 5-2 victory over 19th ranked St. Charles Community College on Saturday, September 10 in Cottleville.

St. Charles scored two goals initially, before SFCC got on the scoreboard with a goal from sophomore Mariela Rodriguez with an assist from Ramirez to begin the comeback and make the score 2-1 at halftime.

"St. Charles is a very tall and athletic team," said Tucker. "It took some time for us to adjust and settle down. We were able to score one goal before halftime and executed better in the second half."

Ramirez scored an unassisted goal to tie the game and scored a second goal off of an assist from sophomore midfielder Briscia Zuniga. Ramirez and Moon would add one more each, to provide the winning margin.

"I am very proud of our players," said Tucker. "They are doing what we practice and that has made us successful so far this season."

Mosher got the start in goal for SFCC and made six saves to secure the victory.
