Lady Roadrunners fall in battle of ranked teams

The 18th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners fell 3-1 to sixth-ranked Southwestern Illinois College on Thursday, Oct. 14 in Belleville, Illinois.

Southwestern Illinois scored first in the 14th and 19th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Southwestern Illinois got on the scoreboard again in the 51st minute.

The Lady Roadrunners (9-4-1) fought back with a goal from freshman midfielder Ally Woolery with an assist from freshman midfielder Andrea Ramirez.

"The game was a little bit closer than what the scoreboard showed," said Lady Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Jaime Beltran. "We had a couple of balls go off the post and we had a few opportunities in front of the goal. Southwestern Illinois made the most of their opportunities. Southwestern Illinois is a very good team, there is a reason that they are ranked inside the top 10 in the country. Our team did not play badly. We were just unable to finish some of our opportunities."

Freshmen goalkeepers Valerie Anchondo and Madison Mosher split time in goal for SFCC, each making their first appearance of the season in goal.
