Lady Roadrunners Soccer Region Tournament Recap

May 16 Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia, Missouri

The 19th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners saw their season come to an end with a 4-1 loss to Metropolitan Community College on Sunday, May 16 in Sedalia. The game was delayed and moved to Tiger Stadium at Smith-Cotton High School due to weather.

"We did not play well," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "Every team has games every year when they do not perform at full strength, unfortunately we played that game in post season. We were more affected than Metropolitan Community College by all the additional stuff that happened. We were ready to start playing, when the first lightning delay happened but, that completely threw us off. We did what we could in the locker room to try to keep them focused, but it obviously affected us more than it did the other team."

Metropolitan Community College got on the board first with 43 minutes and 27 seconds remaining in the opening half. The Lady Roadrunners responded with a goal by Carly Roberts of Higginsville to tie the match at one with just over 41 minutes remaining in the opening half.

Metropolitan Community College scored again to take a 2-1 lead into halftime and added two more goals to seal the win. Lightning stopped the game again with about 15 minutes remaining in the contest. After the delay, MCC closed out the remainder the contest to claim the victory and advance to the Region 16 Tournament Championship Game.

The loss brought an end to a successful record-breaking season for the Lady Roadrunners.

"If you had asked me before the season began, after last year and after everything that we have been through with COVID, if I would have signed up for a 7-4 year, breaking all kinds of records and that we would make it to the semifinals, I would have signed up for that in a heartbeat. Obviously, it is disappointing to end the season with a loss to a team that we had beaten twice this season but, it is very hard to beat a team three times in one season. We exceeded all expectations during regular season, we just had one bad game at the end."
