Lady Roadrunners Soccer Recaps April 19-24

April 19 Mineral Area College at Sedalia

The 19th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners defeated Mineral Area College 2-0 on Monday, April 19 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia.

SFCC scored with less than five minutes remaining in the opening half on a goal from midfielder Skyler Sweezor of Linn Creek. SFCC held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, forward Sabra Moon of Sedalia converted on a shot that hit the inside of the post and ricocheted into the back of the net with less than 15 minutes remaining in the match to provide the winning margin.

"I thought we played better in the second half," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "This was a rescheduled game, there was a lot of stuff going on but, the girls did well and they got the win."

Goalkeeper Savannah Romero of Las Cruces, New Mexico made one save in the net for SFCC and recorded the shutout.

April 21 St. Louis Community College at St. Louis

SFCC fell 2-0 to 14th-ranked St. Louis Community College on Wednesday, April 21 in St. Louis. St. Louis scored both their goals in the first half, one in the 10th minute followed by another goal in the 14th minute.

"After the first two goals from St. Louis, the first half was fairly even," said Beltran. "The second half we were able to put a lot of pressure on St. Louis. Our goalkeeper touched the ball one time. We just couldn't get anything to go in. It wasn't meant to be."

Romero got the start in goal for SFCC and recorded two saves in the match.

 

April 24 Mineral Area College at Bonne Terre, Missouri

SFCC (5-3) defeated Mineral Area College 3-0 on Saturday, April 24 in Bonne Terre. Forward Briscia Zuniga of Houston, Texas opened the scoring with a goal in the 12th minute, with an assist from Moon.

Defender Leah Overbay of Harrisonville scored in the 42nd minute of the game. Defender Megan Toops of Sedalia finished the scoring in the game with a goal in the 67th minute. SFCC took 21 shots, 13 of which were on target in the match.

"We controlled the game from beginning to end," said Beltran. "The girls played very well. We missed a couple chances but, were able to capitalize on others."

Romero recorded the shutout in goal for SFCC making one save.
