Women’s Soccer Recaps April 5-10

April 5 Southwestern Illinois College at Sedalia

The 20th ranked State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost 1-0 to sixth-ranked Southwestern Illinois College at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex on Monday, April 5 in the home opener for SFCC. Both teams are ranked this week in the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer Poll.

It was a back-and-forth contest for much of the first half until Southwestern Illinois scored the only goal of the match with less than 10 minutes.

"Southwestern Illinois is a team that is ranked in the top 10 in the country," said SFCC Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We wanted to try to catch them on a counterattack and we had our chances. We did a good job of absorbing pressure, which you have to do when you are playing for the counterattack. The goal was the one time we had a miscommunication in the back. They took advantage of the opportunity to their credit. We did not put our heads down. Our girls never quit playing the entire game."

Carly Roberts of Higginsville led SFCC in shots with two, one of which was on goal. Savannah Romero of Las Cruces, New Mexico got the start in goal for SFCC. Romero made seven saves in the match.

April 10 East Central College at Sedalia, Tiger Stadium

The 20th ranked Lady Roadrunners (2-1) defeated East Central College 3-0 on Saturday, April 10 at Tiger Stadium at Smith-Cotton High School. The game was moved to turf because of rainy and wet field conditions at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex.

Forward Sabra Moon of Sedalia scored a goal with less than 24 minutes remaining in the opening half. Moon scored again off a long shot with just more than eight minutes remaining until halftime.

Natalie Clarke of England provided the final goal in the contest with less than 29 minutes remaining in the second half.

Romero got the start in goal once again for SFCC and recorded one save to earn the shutout.
