Kaskaskia defeats SFCC 3-1 in soccer

The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners could not overcome a slow start on Friday afternoon, Sept. 30, in a soccer match against Kaskaskia College from Centralia, Illinois. SFCC (1-4-2) allowed two goals in the first eight minutes of the opening half.

"We have to come out with the right mindset to start the game," said Lady Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Eddie Horn. "After the first 10 minutes the game kind of leveled, and we were able to connect a few passes and get out and play. Anytime you dig a 2-0 hole to a team the caliber of Kaskaskia, it's a tall task to come back."

Midfielder Kristen Farrell got the Lady Roadrunners back into the match with an unassisted goal in the 47th minute of the game when she slid the ball passed the charging goalkeeper to make the score 2-1. Kaskaskia scored again in the 56th minute off a well struck free kick to provide the final goal of the match.

The Lady Roadrunners will travel to 15th ranked Lewis and Clark Community College on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
