Lady Roadrunners pick up historic victory

The SFCC Lady Roadrunners soccer team (1-2-1) picked up their first victory in program history on Thursday, Sept. 8, when they defeated the Central Methodist University (CMU) junior varsity 2-1 in the home opener.

"The most exciting part is that I honestly feel like that every day we get a little bit better," said Lady Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Eddie Horn. "It's nice to see that the work the team has been putting in paid off today with a win. It was a great team effort."

After a hand ball was called on CMU, SFCC got on the scoreboard first, courtesy of a penalty kick from freshman midfielder Maddie Davidson at about the four-minute mark in the first half, but CMU scored to tie the game. Lady Roadrunner sophomore defender Brie Bullock scored the game-winning goal off a free kick just over the outstretched arms of the CMU goalkeeper at about the 27th minute. SFCC used its defense anchored by freshman goalkeeper Kylie King to secure the victory.

The Lady Roadrunners will be back in action against the Missouri Valley College junior varsity at 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Sports Complex west of the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
