Lady Roadrunners snap losing streak, fall at Moberly

Feb. 15 Crowder College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners picked up a very important 63-57 victory over Crowder College inside the Davis Center on Wednesday night, Feb. 15 in Sedalia. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams and snapped a six-game losing streak for the Lady Roadrunners.

SFCC led 21-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Roadrunners stretched the lead to 41-29 at halftime. Crowder tied the game at 51 at the end of three quarters and led 55-51 in the fourth quarter with about six minutes remaining. SFCC answered and took a 59-56 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the game to secure the victory.

"It was really important to get this win," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "I felt like we were close in some of those recent losses. I thought Jaida Shipp came in tonight and gave us some good possessions. She just dominated the boards late in the game and played smart. Our backs are against the wall, and we are going to need to keep clawing and scratching until we can get ourselves out."

Freshman forward Aiyanna Tanksley put together a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Sophomore guard Paige Spencer contributed 15 points and a team-high two steals. Sophomore guard Biance Stocks led the team with six assists. Shipp pulled down 12 rebounds.

"I think you saw two teams in this game who are still trying to figure things out," said Collier. "I was proud of our effort tonight."

The Lady Roadrunners honored their sophomore class at halftime of the men's contest on sophomore night.

Feb. 18 Moberly Area Community College at Moberly

SFCC (13-13, 3-10 in Region 16) fell 101-51 to the 15th-ranked Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds on Saturday night, Feb. 18. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.

The game was tied at 19 at the end of the first quarter. Moberly used a big offensive outburst to take control of the game in the second quarter. The Lady Greyhounds led 53-33 at halftime. Moberly pushed the advantage to 80-40 at the end of three quarters to seal the victory.

Tanksley led the team in scoring with 11 points off the bench. Shipp pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds. Stocks had three assists and tied for team lead in steals with Tanksley with two each.
