Lady Roadrunners continue Region play

February 1 Jefferson College at Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost a Region 16 game in overtime, 61-57  to the Jefferson College Lady Vikings on Wednesday, Feb. 1 in Sedalia.

SFCC led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 20-8 with a 6-0 run to begin the second quarter. The 12-point advantage was largest held by either team in the contest.

SFCC led 29-21 at halftime and maintained a 37-34 lead at the end of the third quarter. Jefferson fought back to tie the game at 53 with 3.2 seconds remaining in the contest. A last-second shot opportunity for SFCC came up short to force the game into overtime. Jefferson took control of the game in overtime to secure the victory.

"The last time we played Jefferson they used a zone defense against us," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "This time they started off in a man-to-man defense. I thought we did a good job of executing on the offensive side. When they switched to the zone defense it stalled us out. We made some mistakes defensively. Offensively, we struggled to shoot the ball from the field. We gave up way too many offensive rebounds. We are low in numbers and fatigue was an issue."

Freshman forward Aiyanna Tanksley registered a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Sophomore forward Autumn Wallace and sophomore guard Paige Spencer added 12 points each. Freshman guard Perryauna Youmans had a team-high five assists. Spencer recorded one blocked shot. Wallace led the team in steals with three.
