Lady Roadrunners lose a pair of Region contests

January 25 Moberly Area Community College in Sedalia

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners lost a Region 16 game, 83-70 to the 20th ranked Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds on Wednesday, January 25 during the Coaches vs Cancer fundraiser night inside the Davis Center.

The back-and-forth contest featured six lead changes and three ties. Moberly took a 15-14 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Greyhounds pushed the advantage to 35-31 at halftime. Moberly extended the lead to 10 points with two minutes remaining in the third quarter. SFCC fought back to trim the advantage to 58-55 at the end of the third quarter, but Moberly pulled away in the final 10 minutes to secure the victory.

"I thought tonight was the first time in a while that I've seen us compete as a group," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "We had five people on the floor who wanted to win the game. They never hung their heads when something didn't go our way. I thought we did a decent job of guarding Moberly; we had some communication issues that we cleaned up in the second half. We were able to take them out of what they wanted to do and make them run some different things offensively. I think that's a credit to our kids."

Freshman forward Aiyanna Tanksley led SFCC in scoring with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Paige Spencer contributed 13 points off the bench. Sophomore forward Autumn Wallace registered a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Freshman guard Perryauna Youmans pitched in with 11 points, a team-high six assists, and a team-high two steals. Sophomore guard Biance Stocks chipped in with 10 points.

January 28 Crowder College at Neosho

SFCC (12-9, 2-6 in Region 16) lost 60-57 to Crowder College in Neosho on Saturday, January 28 in a Region 16 game.

SFCC had a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter and pushed the advantage to nine at halftime. In the third quarter, Crowder trimmed the advantage to two points at the end of the third quarter and outscored SFCC 24-19 to erase the deficit and secure the win. SFCC committed 25 turnovers in the game.

"Crowder did a really good job of defending us," said Collier. "They made some adjustments on the defensive side of things that got us out of sync. Crowder wanted the game more than we did. They outworked us on the boards. We gave up several offensive rebounds, which allowed them to stay in the game. We had several leads of between eight and 12 points. We had several critical turnovers in the third quarter that allowed them to get back into the game. At the end of the game, we hit a three-point shot to tie the score and then we gave up a layup at the other end."

Tanksley put together a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Tanksley also led the team in assists with six. Freshman guard Kylee Ash chipped in with 10 points.
