Lady Roadrunners split a pair of games

Jan. 16 - Ottawa University Junior Varsity at Sedalia

The Lady Roadrunners defeated Ottawa University Junior Varsity 68-52 at home in the Davis Center.

The Lady Roadrunners outscored Ottawa 25-10 in the second quarter to take control of the contest.

"I thought Ottawa settled for a lot of outside shots in the second quarter," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "We were able to hold them to one shot per possession. I thought that was successful. Once we got into the third quarter, the zone was more stagnant, and we weren't aggressive and had to get out of it. At the end of the day, I'm proud of the girls who were out there competing."

Sophomore forward Autumn Wallace led the team in scoring with a career-high 30 points on 14 of 22 from the field to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Freshman forward Aiyanna Tanksley contributed a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Tanksley and sophomore guard Biance Stocks tied for the lead in assists with four each. As a team, SFCC registered 19 assists and 10 steals. Sophomore guard Kayla Dooley led in steals with three.

"Autumn was sharp tonight," said Collier. "Aiyanna is hard to guard when she keeps the game simple. I was also impressed with our team having 19 assists on 27 made shots. That shows the ability to find people and be efficient. We out rebounded Ottawa 46 to 27. We knew we needed one through five to help us rebound to win today, and we were able to do that."

Jan. 21 - Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders at Sedalia

SFCC (12-7, 2-4 in Region 16) fell to the 17th ranked Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders 86-67 in the Davis Center. The game was part of the Region 16 schedule for both teams.

Three Rivers led 21-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Raiders used a full-court pressure defense to force SFCC into 34 turnovers. Three Rivers outscored SFCC 23-12 in the second quarter.

"I definitely thought Three Rivers was aggressive in their pressure defense," said Collier. "They definitely tried to ramp it up a little bit tonight. I felt our decision-making was poor against the pressure. You won't win many games with that many turnovers. We need to get better with our consistency of playing on both ends of the floor. We will learn from this and get stronger. We will be ready for Moberly on Wednesday."

Tanksley led the team in scoring with 22 points to go along with eight rebounds. Stocks pitched in with 14 points and a team-high three steals. Wallace added 11 points. Freshman guard Perryauna Youmans pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and led in assists with six.
