Lady Roadrunners sweep Thanksgiving Classic

November 25 - Highland Community College-Kansas at Sedalia

The Lady Roadrunners opened the SFCC Thanksgiving Classic with a 90-56 victory over Highland Community College-Kansas in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center in Sedalia.

SFCC jumped out to a 22-4 lead at the end of first quarter. Highland fought back in the contest, but SFCC led 38-29 at halftime.

"I thought we looked really sharp in the first quarter," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "We executed really well. In the second quarter, I thought we were really slow. We got a little bit too comfortable and sloppy and let them back into the game. We are striving to be consistent in every possession in every quarter. We are not there yet, but I think we are taking steps in that direction."

Sophomore guard Biance Stocks led SFCC with 23 points, four assists and three steals. Freshman forward Aiyanna Tanksley scored 19 points. She tied sophomore forward Autumn Wallace for the team lead in rebounds with eight. Wallace added 17 points and sophomore guard Kayla Dooley scored 13 points.

November 26 - Allen County Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (7-3) closed out the classic with a 57-54 overtime victory over Allen County Community College.

The Lady Roadrunners led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. Allen County trimmed SFCC's lead to 24-22 at halftime. Allen County led 29-24 with less than eight minutes remaining in the third quarter. SFCC battled back to take a one-point advantage, courtesy of a jumper from freshman forward Jaida Shipp with about four minutes left in the third quarter. Allen County held a three-point advantage, 40-37, at the end of three quarters. The Lady Roadrunners had an opportunity to win in regulation, but the final shot was missed, sending the game into overtime tied at 52.

SFCC outscored Allen County 5-2 in the overtime. Throughout the game SFCC struggled with turnovers.

"It was a very sloppy game," said Collier. "We were able to battle back. This game was a grinder. Our team made plays and got stops when it counted. We turned the ball over too much, but we were able to get the win."

Shipp led the team in scoring with 12 points. Wallace recorded a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Perryauna Youmans scored 10 points and led in steals with three. Stocks dished out a team-high four assists.
