Lady Roadrunners fall in quarterfinal round

The fourth-seeded State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners (9-16) saw their season come to an end with a 62-59 loss to the fifth-seeded Jefferson College Lady Vikings in the quarterfinal round of the Region 16 Tournament inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Tuesday night, March 1.

SFCC trailed 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Vikings extended the lead to 32-25 at halftime. The Lady Roadrunners fought their way back in the game, trimming the deficit to one point with 35 seconds remaining in the final quarter, but it would prove to not be enough.

"We dug ourselves a hole in the first half," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier. "We had some assignment issues. I knew that Jefferson playing five guards was going to be tough on us but, I thought we could capitalize with size. I think they won that battle tonight. Jefferson got a lot of second chance opportunities and made a lot of hustle plays. I thought the first half we gave them way too many offensive rebounds. We were able to learn and get better throughout the season and we never quit. That was our identity this season, we never quit playing."

Sophomore guard Grace Goodwin led the Lady Roadrunners in scoring with 14 points. Freshman forward Autumn Wallace contributed 10 points. Sophomore forward Tieriney Echols pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and registered a team-high three steals in the game.
