Lady Roadrunners fall to nationally ranked Kansas City Kansas

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners fought hard but, came up just short against Kansas City Kansas Community College the seventh-ranked team in the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball Rankings by a score of 77-71 inside the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on Tuesday night, Nov. 9.

SFCC (2-2) took a 19-9 lead in the first quarter using full-court pressure defense and the inside presence of freshman forward Quincenia Jackson. The Lady Roadrunners led 23-20 at the end of the first quarter. The game was tied at 39 at halftime. SFCC had a 61-57 lead at the end of three quarters. Kansas City Kansas erased the deficit in the fourth quarter and made just enough plays down the stretch to emerge with a victory.

Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Nicole Collier was pleased with the effort put forth by her team.

"The girls competed tonight," said Collier. "They played as a team. They bounced back when things didn't go their way. Our team worked their tails off. We had some mishaps that cost us the game but, the energy and effort was there. I thought Kansas City Kansas struggled with guarding Quincenia and we were able to open up other things because they had to bring a double team. I hope that we are excited about how hard we played tonight and the adjustments we made, but we cannot settle."

Jackson led SFCC in scoring with 25 points, making 10 of 11 shots from the field and five of six free-throw attempts. Jackson also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and tied for the team lead in steals with two. Freshman guard Grace Goodwin added 13 points and freshman guard Paige Spencer added 11 points and tied for the team lead in assists with three. Freshman guard Kaitlyn Everts also had three assists. Sophomore post Jakyah Amous led the team with two blocked shots. Amous tied the team lead in steals with two.
