Lady Roadrunners pick up key road win

The 15th ranked Lady Roadrunners outscored the Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds 20-13 in the third quarter to emerge with a 77-67 victory in Moberly on Saturday night, Feb. 13. SFCC (20-5, 6-2 in Region 16, 6-1 in the MCCAC) made 15 of 18 free throws to help seal victory. SFCC reached the 20 win mark for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

"We played strong defense tonight," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "Our defensive pressure was really good. We also rebounded well during that stretch. Offensively, we came down and took good shots. The flow of our offense helped to keep our defense on track. We used the clock wisely, and we were able to hit shots."

Sophomore guard Sierra Clayborn led three Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 20 points. Sophomore guard Seara Clayborn contributed 12 points. Freshman guard Danae' Cole added 10 points. Sophomore forward Thelma "TuTu" Williams pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Williams also dished out a team-high six assists. Sierra Clayborn led the team in steals with two.

"It was a great team effort," said Bucher. "Everyone played, and everyone had a part in the game. It was a great win on the road."

The Lady Roadrunners will close out the road portion of their regular season schedule on Wednesday, Feb. 17, with a road trip to Hillsboro to take on the Jefferson College Lady Vikings in another key region and conference contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
