Lady Roadrunners defeat Jefferson College

The 21st ranked Lady Roadrunners made it three wins in a row on Saturday evening, Jan. 16. SFCC (16-3, 3-0 in Region 16, 3-0 in the MCCAC) used a strong defensive effort in the first half to take control of the game and emerge with a 95-71 victory over Jefferson College Lady Vikings from Hillsboro.

"Our defensive effort in the first half was outstanding," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher.

Freshman guard Ahjana Oakes led four Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 20 points. Sophomore guardZhanesha Dickerson contributed 18 points. Sophomore guard Ecenur Yurdakul added 16 points, and sophomore forward Thelma "Tutu" Williams pitched in 13 points.

"We got some easy baskets in transition," said Bucher. "Our passing was very crisp, especially in the first half. We made Jefferson rotate in their zone defense, and we kept going to whoever had the hot hand. We were unselfish, and we shot the ball much better."

The Lady Roadrunners will close out their four-game home stand on Wednesday, Jan. 20, when they host the Crowder College Lady Roughriders from Neosho in another key Region 16 contest. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.
