Lady Roadrunners Sweep Midwest Bone and Joint Center Classic

The 13th-ranked Lady Roadrunners won both their games Nov. 27-28 in the Midwest Bone and Joint Center Classic in Moberly. SFCC (12-1) defeated the Highland Community College Lady Cougars from Freeport, Illinois, 85-58 on Friday and the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles from Rockford, Illinois, 72-54 on Saturday. The victories pushed the Lady Roadrunners' win streak to 10 games.

SFCC jumped out to an early 19-5 lead against Highland, led 47-26 at halftime and never looked back.

"Our full-court presses really forced some turnovers," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We hit a couple big three-point shots early in the game to open things up for our post players."

Sophomore guard Sierra Clayborn led a pair of Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 16 points. Sophomore forward Thelma Williams contributed 11. Freshman center Kendra Boone led in rebounds with nine. Sophomore guard Seara Clayborn dished out a team-high five assists and led in steals with five. Sophomore guard Zhanesha Dickerson registered a team-high two blocked shots.

Saturday against Rock Valley, the Lady Roadrunners opened the game with an 11-0 run and used that momentum to propel themselves to victory. SFCC forced 33 turnovers against Rock Valley.

"Our pressing and half-court trapping got us a lot of steals and layup opportunities, but we struggled to convert," said Bucher. "We played hard defensively. We will get better at hitting shots. It was great to close out the Thanksgiving holiday with two wins."

Freshman guard Alexis Cowan led four Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 13 points and led in steals with five. Freshman forward Kiante Johnson contributed 12 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Williams and Boone added 11 points apiece. Boone registered a team-leading three blocked shots. Sophomore guard Ecenur Yurdakul, Seara Clayborn, freshman guard Danae' Cole, and Dickerson all tied for the team lead in assists with two.

The Lady Roadrunners will be back in action at home Dec. 9 when they take on Southeastern Community College at 5:30 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
