Lady Roadrunners Win High-Scoring Game

The 12th-ranked Lady Roadrunners won their eighth game in a row Feb. 7 when they defeated the Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders 116-104 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

SFCC (18-5, 6-0 in Region 16, 6-0 in the MCCAC) opened the game with a three-point basket from freshman guard Maura Skidmore. The Lady Roadrunners stretched their advantage to 21-8 with fewer than 14 minutes remaining in the opening half.

"We were able to push the ball on offense," said Lady Roadrunners Assistant Coach Jordan Greenleaf. "We just played the way we've been playing. We were able to get stops on the defensive end and go down to make the smart plays on the offensive end."

SFCC led 62-42 at halftime. The Lady Roadrunners allowed the Lady Raiders to score 62 points in the second half.

"We struggled defensively in the second half," said Greenleaf. "Three Rivers shot a bunch of three-point shots. We did a poor job of boxing out and they got a lot of easy layups. They spread the floor out and attacked us because there was no help side defense. We need to get better at containing teams on defense and then finishing the play with a box out."

Sophomore guard Erin Boothe led five Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with a career-high 32 points. She knocked down 15 of 17 free throws, tied Skidmore for the team lead in assists with seven and led in steals with four. Sophomore center Alecia Cooley registered another double double with 23 points and a team-high 19 rebounds and also led her team in blocks with two. Freshman guard/forward Tyisha Saunders contributed 21 points. Sophomore guard Sannayyiah Johnson added 15 points in her return to the lineup, including four of six from beyond the three-point arc. Sophomore guard Derriel Banyard pitched in with 12 points.

SFCC will return home Feb. 11 for another key Region 16 contest against the Crowder College Lady Roughriders at 5:30 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. This will be the beginning of a three-game home stand for the Lady Roadrunners.
