Lady Roadrunners Win Conference Opener

The 23rd-ranked Lady Roadrunners turned a 12-point deficit into a three-point halftime advantage at 42-39 en route to an 87-74 victory over the St. Louis Community College Lady Archers Nov. 11 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The game was the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) opener for SFCC.

SFCC (6-0, 1-0 MCCAC) trailed 23-11 in the first half. That was when Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher decided it was time for a change.

"When we went to the smaller lineup it really changed the momentum of the game," said Bucher. "I was really pleased with that. We were going to stay with that lineup in order to keep the game at our pace and style of play. A lot of players were playing well at that time, like Tyisha Saunders. We put her up at the top of the press and she played that whole 10 minutes. We were able to use our full-court pressure to create some steals."

Sannayyiah Johnson led four Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 18 points. Freshman guard Maura Skidmore contributed 12 points; she also tied for the team lead in assists with four, along with sophomore guard Erin Boothe and freshman guard/ forward Zhanesha Dickerson. Sophomore center Alecia Cooley and Dickerson scored 12 points apiece and Dickerson pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Boothe led the team in steals with three.

SFCC will finish up its three-game home stand by hosting the Stone Laser Imaging Classic Nov. 14-15. SFCC will play 19th-ranked Wabash Valley College from Mount Carmel, Illinois, on Friday and Independence Community College from Independence, Kansas, on Saturday. Tipoff for both games is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

"It will be a great weekend of basketball," said Bucher. "We'll have to play really well to keep our winning streak going here at home."
