The SFCC shooting sports team continued its season at the ACUI and SCTP 2023 Collegiate Fall Central Midwest Conference Championship Oct. 14-15 in Sparta, Illinois.

SFCC shot the traditional 100 American Skeet, 100 American Trap, and 100 Sporting Clays.

"This was a regional tournament," said Head Coach Sarah Manuel. "There were 300 participants at the event from 22 different schools, and there were 11 states represented. Connor Hess put his head down and really kept his scores consistent throughout all three disciplines. That was really nice with the amount of pressure that is put on at this type of event. Hunter Snow also kept his numbers consistent, which is all you can ask for from student-athletes at a tournament like this.

"I would also like to highlight Gracy Wilson, who put in a lot of work during the off-season. It has really shown throughout the season. She recorded a personal best this weekend in American Trap with a qualifying score of 86. Last year, she shot in the mid-40s out of 100. She has more than doubled her personal best from last season."

SFCC took second as a team in the Classic All-Around. That event consisted of 100 American Trap, 100 American Skeet, and 100 Sporting Clays with a score of 1,329 out of 1,500, which was 11 birds behind Mississippi State University.

"I'm very proud of not only the work our kids have put in to improve their scores, but they've also become better teammates," said Manuel.
