Roadrunners compete at Panther Classic

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Shooting Sports team continued its season at the Panther Classic on Sept. 16-17. The event was hosted by Drury University at Springfield Rod and Gun and the Ozark Shooters Sports Complex. The event consisted of 100 American Trap, 100 American Skeet, 100 Sporting Clays, and 50 bird five stand.

"My sophomores came out of the gates well," said head coach Sarah Manuel. "We had six sophomores who hit qualification scores for nationals. Connor Hess shot a 98 in American Trap and a 94 in American Skeet. I was very proud of that performance. He really stepped up for us. Arthur Sims Jr. shot a 91 in American Trap, that is a really good score. Arthur had never shot until last year and he has really improved. Bailey Carter shot an 89 in American Trap as a freshman, which is impressive. I'm very proud of him.

"Daniel Younger-Loesing was on the team that made nationals last year," said Manuel. He has come in this season and set the mental example for the freshmen. He has shown them how to keep their heads down and focus on what they need to do and have fun while you're doing it. Our freshmen are still learning, and he has the patience to continue to work with them."

SFCC will return to action at the Missouri Valley Viking Invitational on Sept. 30 through Oct. 1 in Columbia.
