SFCC hosts exhibition shoot

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Shooting Sports team hosted Missouri Valley College and William Woods University in an exhibition shoot on Wednesday, September 6 at the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club. This event consisted of each participant shooting 100 American Trap birds.

"I thought all the kids did great," said Head Coach Sarah Manuel. "There was a total of 48 student-athletes at the event. Wayland Mckenzie won the top male athlete award with a score of 97. He tied at 97 with another student-athlete and won the event in a shoot off 13 birds in. I'm glad he was able to have good enough mental focus to get the job done."

SFCC finished second as a squad to Missouri Valley by 11 birds. The top squad for SFCC consisted of Mckenzie, Will VanVactor, Arthur Sims Jr, Anthony Walls, and Bailey Carter.

"I also had two female student-athletes who were very impressive," said Manuel. "Olivia Williams is a freshman from Cole Camp who did very well seeing this type of competition for the first time. Gracy Wilson is a returner for us, her scores have increased a lot since last season."

SFCC will compete next at Drury University on September 15-17 in Springfield.

"I'm very thankful for the fans who came out and supported our event," said Manuel. "I saw multiple faculty and staff members, as well as members of the Board of Trustees. It was also great to see the family members of our student-athletes get to watch them compete. Our team and I also appreciate the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club for the use of the facility and helping run the event."
