The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Shooting Sports team participated in the 2023 Clay Shooters Supply and RC USA Ammo Collegiate Shoot in Dallas on Feb. 17-19. The event was sanctioned by the NCSSAA.

"This was an invitational event," said SFCC Head Coach Sarah Manuel. "We got invited to this event because of how well we have done throughout our season."

The event consisted of a traditional format of 100 American Skeet, 100 American Trap, and 100 Sporting Clays.

Freshman NJ McKenzie took first place in American Skeet with a score of 99, out of 212 shooters. McKenzie tied with one other person and won the event in a shoot-off.

"NJ kept his head down and stayed very focused throughout the whole thing and he was able to come out with a win," said Manuel. "I was very proud of him. We were competing against colleges and universities from all different levels."

In the team event, SFCC finished second overall.

"Arthur Sims shot a 92 in American Trap," said Manuel. "He has shown a lot of improvement throughout the season."

The Shooting Sports team will wrap up their season at the NCSSAA Championship beginning on March 13 in Las Vegas.
