Shooting Sports opens spring semester

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Shooting Sports team finished second in team competition at the State Fair Community College Freeze Out January 21-22 at the Polecat Creek Shotgun Park in Harrisonville. The  NCSSAA sanctioned event consisted of nine teams.

"We shot 100 trap, 100 skeet, and 100 sporting clays," said Roadrunners Head Coach Sarah Manuel. "Our team did really well. The weather conditions were less than ideal. We had to deal with some sleet and snow. As a shotgun team, we still shoot in those conditions. I'm very proud of our kids."

NJ McKenzie took first place in skeet with a score of 97 out of 100. McKenzie also took first place in sporting clays with 93 out of 100.

"McKenzie shot extremely well," said Manuel. "As did Lilie Lett, who gained five percent of her overall average. I am very proud her. Arthur Sims also qualified for Nationals in sporting clays. We were able to start off our second semester really strong. Now, our kids are focused on what they need to do to be successful in Las Vegas at the NCSSAA National Championships."
