Lady Roadrunners softball makes long awaited home debut

March 28 North Central Missouri College at Trenton

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners split a pair of Region 16 games with North Central Missouri College Tuesday, March 28 in Trenton. SFCC won the first game 10-6. In the second game, North Central won 8-7 in nine innings on a walk-off home run.

SFCC offense produced 13 hits in game one. Freshman outfielder Jaelyn Winfrey had two hits, including a home run. Freshman catcher Paige Klinge also had two hits and a home run. Freshman third baseman/outfielder Zoey DeHaas hit a grand slam.

Sophomore Kennidi Harris pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits to get the win. Harris. Freshman pitcher Grace VanDenburgh pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and struck out one.

In game two, SFCC had 15 hits. DeHaas led SFCC with three hits, including a home run. Winfrey had a homerun and a hit. Sophomore second baseman Kelsey Webb added two hits, including a double.

Freshman Charlee Reese pitched 6 1/3 innings, gave up seven runs (six earned), on 10 hits and struck out four for SFCC. VanDenburgh gave up one run, struck out one and picked up the loss in relief of the final 1 2/3 innings.

March 30 Moberly Area Community College at Moberly

SFCC swept Moberly Area Community College in a doubleheader 3-0 and 6-5 Thursday, March 30 in Moberly.

In game one, sophomore second baseman Kelsey Webb recorded three hits and an RBI. Winfrey had two hits, including a double and scored twice. Klinge had a pair of hits and a run scored. DeHaas had a double. Freshman third baseman Jocelyn Wolf also drove in a run.

Harris got the start and went four innings, gave up four hits and struck out four to earn the victory. VanDenburgh gave up one hit and struck out two in three innings to close the game.

In game two, Webb had two hits, including a double and one RBI. Klinge hit a home run and drove in two runs. DeHaas also hit a home run and drove in two runs. Wolf also hit a home run.

Sophomore Kaycee Thompson pitched six innings for the win and gave up one run on seven hits for SFCC. Sophomore pitcher/first baseman Alexis Hughes gave up four runs on four hits in the final inning.

"It felt great to get our first sweep against Moberly, especially on the road," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Michele Rupard. "Moberly played well, and it was good to see our girls respond and get the job done. We've been close all year to putting things together, hopefully this will get us on the right path."

April 1 Metropolitan Community College at Sedalia

SFCC split their home opening Region 16 doubleheader against Metropolitan Community College, winning the opening game 6-4 before falling 7-4 in game two at Mandy Thomas Field Saturday, April 1 in Sedalia. SFCC also recognized the sophomore class at the conclusion of the doubleheader and welcomed back alumni.

In game one, Winfrey had two hits, including a home run. Freshman first baseman Paige Clines hit a home run and drove in a team-high three runs. Webb had two hits, including a double. Sophomore third baseman Kailei Allen also had two hits and one RBI.

Harris went the distance for SFCC, gave up four runs on seven hits and struck out four.

In game two, Winfrey collected two more hits and two runs scored. Klinge also had two hits. Hughes had two hits, including a double and two RBIs. DeHaas hit a home run. Sophomore utility player Kailee Liles doubled.

Reese got the start and gave up seven runs, (four earned) on eight hits and struck out two in 6 1/3 innings,. Thompson came out of the bullpen to record the final two outs, gave up one hit and walked one.

April 2 Three Rivers Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (6-14, 3-7 in Region 16) dropped two Region 16 games to Three Rivers Community College at Mandy Thomas Field inside Centennial Park 1-0 and 2-0 in Sedalia on Sunday, April 2.

In game one, Three Rivers scored the only run of the contest in the top of the seventh inning. SFCC had chances throughout the game but could not collect the key hit.

Winfrey, Webb, Wolf, and Hughes each had one hit for SFCC. Wolf recorded the only extra base hit of the game for SFCC with a double.

Harris got the start and gave up one run on seven hits and struck out five in the complete game.

In game two, Three Rivers scored single runs in the third and sixth innings to provide the winning margin. The SFCC offense was held to only two hits in the game, a double and a single from Winfrey.

VanDenburgh went the distance in the circle for SFCC.  VanDenburgh gave up two runs on five hits and struck out one.
