SFCC cross country competes in national championship

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners and Lady Roadrunners Cross Country teams finished a season of firsts competing at the NJCAA National Championships at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Roadrunners finished 25th as a team at the event in the Division II men's race.

Freshman Logan Shaw led SFCC and finished 89th overall with a time of 28:40.6. Freshman Ty Lewis covered the course in 29:04.7 to finish 108th. Freshman Ethan Montgomery finished 144th with a time of 30:01.6. Sophomore Zack Dyer finished 171st with a time of 31:05.3. Freshman Juan Herrera finished 179th with a time of 31:37.8. Freshman Ryan Smith finished 180th with a time of 31:42.5. Freshman Nathan Gemechu finished 208th with a time of 33:45.9.

Freshman Korry Davis representing the Lady Roadrunners finished 146th in the women's race with a time of 23:21.5.

"Running at the National Championships was a phenomenal experience," said SFCC Cross Country Head Coach Brad Hagedorn. "We did not finish as high as we wanted in the team scoring. However, we accomplished all the goals we set at the beginning of the season. All our kids are doing well in class and we are creating an exciting culture. Our kids truly care and are committed to each other. All of these things will carry over to an exciting future for this team."
