Three SFCC soccer players earn NJCAA All-Region 16 awards

The National Junior College Athletic Association Region 16 awarded postseason honors for three State Fair Community College Roadrunners soccer student athletes. Sophomore Kenzo Florio of Brazil was named First-Team All-Region 16. Freshman Bruno Saucedo of Bolivia and freshman Rodrigo Prieto of Spain earned Second-Team All-Region 16 honors. The awards are voted on by the coaches in the Region.

Florio played and started in 14 matches for SFCC. He finished second on the team in goals with three and tied for second in assists with two. Florio finished second on the team in points with eight and registered 24 shots with 13 on goal.

"Kenzo was the most versatile and complete player on our team, "said State Fair Community College Athletic Director Darren Pannier. "He started at least one game for us at forward in the midfield and as a defender. He played well in all those roles, although his best position was as a defensive midfielder. He was a team captain who led by example both on and off the field."

Saucedo played and started in 12 games. He dished out a team-high three assists and finished third on the team in points with seven. Saucedo tied for third in goals with two while taking a team-high 35 shots; 21 were on goal, which also led the team. He had one game-winning goal on the season.

"Bruno played as a wing and forward for our team this season," said Pannier. "He was very dangerous with an amazing combination of speed and strength. He created scoring opportunities every time he was on the field."

Prieto played in 15 games and started in 14 as a defender. Prieto scored one goal and took nine shots; two were on target.

"Rodrigo was our most consistent player in the back line and the glue that kept our defense together," said Pannier. "He was a strong 1v1 defender. He always gave the maximum effort for the team."
