Roadrunners lose to CMU and nationally ranked SLCC

Sept.  12 - Central Methodist University at Fayette

The Roadrunners soccer team fell 4-2 to Central Methodist University in Fayette on Sept. 12.

Central Methodist scored the first two goals, and SFCC answered with a goal in the 33rd minute from freshman Hugo Sanchez on a pass from freshman Bruno Saucedo.

Central Methodist scored again with about five minutes remaining in the half. Freshman Rodrigo Prieto scored an unassisted goal in the 66th minute. Central Methodist made the final goal in the 80th minute.

Freshman Ben Bailie took a team-high three shots in the contest.

"I thought our team played well at times during the game, and there were other times where we didn't play as well," said Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Jaime Beltran.

Sophomore goalkeeper Wesley Morrison got the start in goal for SFCC and made one save. Freshman goalkeeper AJ Young played the second half and made one save.

Sept. 17 - St. Louis Community College at Sedalia

SFCC (1-6, 0-3 in Region 16, 0-3 in the MCCAC) fell to 15th-ranked St. Louis Community College 3-2 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex in Sedalia on Sept. 17.

SFCC scored the first goal from Saucedo with 33 minutes, 16 seconds remaining in the opening half.

St. Louis tied the game with a goal with about 17 minutes left and took a 2-1 lead with less than seven minutes left in the first half. St. Louis struck again with less than six minutes remaining to take a 3-1 advantage into halftime.

SFCC cut the deficit to 3-2 with a goal from Sanchez on an assist by sophomore Kenzo Florio with 42 minutes, 58 seconds left in the match. The Roadrunners were unable to come up with the tying goal.

Sanchez took five shots, four on goal, to lead the team in both categories.

Morrison and Young split time in goal for SFCC. Morrison got the start and made no saves. Young recorded one save.

"We have a young team that doesn't understand you have to keep your head up and play for 90 minutes," said Beltran. "We were the better team for 70 or 75 minutes today. We had a 10-to-15-minute stretch where things didn't go our way. We are doing some good things, but we have to clean up some of the things that aren't working. We are getting better. We have to hurry up and hit our stride."
