Roadrunners fall to a pair of nationally ranked foes

September 7 Mineral Area College at Park Hills

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Roadrunners lost a 4-0 match to the 19th ranked Mineral Area College Cardinals in Park Hills on Wednesday, September 7. The game was the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference opener for SFCC.

Mineral Area scored two goals each half to secure the victory.

Freshman Bruno Saucedo took a team-high three of SFCC's nine shots, two of which were on target to pace the SFCC offense.

"We played well for half of the game," said Roadrunners Head Soccer Coach Jaime Beltran. "We struggled in the other half. It was similar to our previous game. Mineral Area took advantage of their opportunities. We had our own opportunities, but not enough of them."

Sophomore goalkeeper Wesley Morrison got the start in goal for SFCC and made six saves.

September 10 St. Charles Community College Cottleville, Missouri

SFCC (1-4, 0-2 in Region 16, 0-2 in the MCCAC) fell to sixth-ranked St. Charles Community College 2-0 on Saturday, September 10 in Cottleville. The game was part of the Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference schedule for both teams.

St. Charles opened the scoring with a goal with under five minutes remaining the opening half. St. Charles tacked on another goal 10 minutes into the second half to provide the winning margin.

"We played well and had some opportunities in the first half," said Beltran. "The St. Charles goalkeeper made a fantastic save on a ball that should've been a goal. We gave up a goal off a free kick that was well taken. A couple of yellow cards (penalties) reduced us to 10 players and it was hard to press and do the things that we were doing. We still had a couple chances, we just didn't put them away."

Freshman Kilian Jung and freshman Ben Bailie took a team-high three shots each. The Roadrunners registered 10 shots as a team in the match.

Morrison got the start in goal for SFCC and made four saves.
