Roadrunners soccer team splits opening week

August 24 - Scott Community College Bettendorf, Iowa

The Roadrunners soccer team opened the 2022 campaign with a 7-0 victory over Scott Community College. The seven goals tied the record for the most goals in a game since the resumption of the program.

Freshman midfielder Ben Bailie opened the scoring for SFCC off a pass from sophomore midfielder Kenzo Florio. SFCC scored again with about 10 minutes remaining in the opening half with a goal from sophomore forward Roberto Jauregui courtesy of a pass from freshman forward Kilian Jung.

SFCC kept the pressure on, scoring early in the second half with an unassisted goal from freshman forward Simone Vitale. He scored again nine minutes later courtesy of a pass from sophomore midfielder Leonardo Camatta. Jauregui scored in the 73rd minute off a pass from Vitale. In the 84th minute, freshman forward Hugo Sanchez scored off a pass from Jauregui. Freshman midfielder Ian Viscarra scored an unassisted goal in the 86th minute to finish the scoring.

"It was good first game for our men's team," said Roadrunners Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "The other team was competitive in the first half. Our guys really picked it up in the second half. We came out of halftime really aggressive and did all the things that we have been working on in practice. It was a good first outing. We were able to have a lot of players contribute. It was a well-rounded team effort."

Sophomore goalkeeper Wesley Morrison got the start and faced no shots the first 60 minutes. Freshman goalkeeper AJ Young played the final 30 minutes and made two saves to complete the combined shutout.

August 27 - Southwestern Illinois College Belleville, Illinois

SFCC (1-1) lost a 1-0 match to Southwestern Illinois College. The only goal of the match happened in the 15th minute.

Freshman forward Bruno Saucedo led the Roadrunners offensively with four shots, three of which were on goal. As a team, SFCC had 14 shots, eight of which were on target.

Young and Morrison played a half each in goal for SFCC. Young recorded two saves and Morrison three.
