Roadrunners golf enters post season play

The State Fair Community College Community College (SFCC) golf team finished fifth as a team in the NJCAA South Central District Championship at the par 70 Shawnee Country Club in Shawnee, Oklahoma on Friday and Saturday, April 28-29.

The team shot 318 in round one, 322 in round two and 340 in the final round to finish 140 over par at the three-round event with a score of 980.

"Our team posted some of the best scores we have had as a program, since the reintroduction of golf at SFCC," said Head Coach Wayne Ogle. "We were able to post scores between 310 and 320 throughout the season as a team consistently. That is an average score of less than 80 per player, when we were able to do that. That is not too bad, considering the weather and conditions that we faced all spring."

Freshman Keaton Mateja recorded the best individual finish for the team, finishing 17th with a total score of 31 over par 241 at the event. Mateja shot an opening round 77. He followed that up with scores of 83 and 81.

Sophomore Matthew Potter finished 19th, with a total score of 33 over par 243. Potter shot scores of 80 in round one, 76 in round two, and 87 in the final round.

Sophomore Kaden Killingsworth finished tied for 20th, with a total score of 40 over par 250. Killingsworth shot 82 in the opening round, 81 in round two, and 87 in the final round.

Freshman Korbin Kisner finished 22nd with a total score of 41 over par 251. Kisner shot 80 in the opening round, 86 in round two, and 85 in the final round.

Freshman Jackson Kempton finished tied for 23rd, with a total score of 42 over par 252. Kempton shot scores of 81 in the opening round, 82 in the second round, and 89 in the final round.

"We are losing Kaden Killingsworth and Matthew Potter, both have used up their eligibility and are slated to graduate," said Ogle. "Kaden has been an asset to the team. He traveled to every tournament over his three years at SFCC and consistently led the team in qualifying. Matthew also traveled to all the events over his two years at SFCC. Matthew would also from time to time lead the team in tournament rounds. Both young men will be missed, and I know they will go on to do great things."
